In the same way many of us read “Hermione” in Harry Potter as “Hermeeony” before we said it out loud and got laughed at by everyone, here are some architecture firms you’re probably pronouncing wrong too, but it doesn’t matter since you’ll never work for them anyway!

1. MVRDV

What you’re saying: murrvur durrv

How it’s actually said: em-vee-ar-dee-vee

Murrvur durrv is a lot more fun to say and has way more of a ring than it’s individual letters. They were really just silly if they thought people wouldn’t call them murrvur durrv, but since you’ll never get a job with them, not even as a receptionist, go ahead and murrv and durrv all day!

2. Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG)

What you’re saying: Big Boy Bjarke

How it’s actually said: Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG)

For some reason, every time you go to say this dreamy  Danish architect’s name as any normal person would, you blurt out “big boy Bjarke”. It probably has something to do with his huuuuuuuuge portfolio. But don’t worry about making this mistake at an interview at his firm (haha firm),  since you’ll never even make it to the interview stage with the big boy himself!

3. Atelier Bow Wow

What you’re saying: Atelier Bow Wow but apprehensively and insecurely

How it’s actually said:  Atelier Bow Wow naturally and normally

You are both unsure of how to say “atelier” correctly and don’t have enough street cred to say “Bow Wow” confidently, so the end result is always a weird mumble. Thankfully you’ll never work for them so when people ask you where you work, you won’t have a thing to worry about!

4. Foster + Partners

What you’re saying: Fostzzzzzzzzz zzzz zzzzzzzzz

How it’s actually said:  Foster and Partners
